Uganda Update and Prayer Need: Brennon Bloemendaal

This is what is going on with my friend in Africa, he sent this to me on facebook and I feel that more people need to hear what is going on. He went there on his own, with just a passion for the people of Africa. Support him in anyway that you can. He is a world changer.

Hello friends, I hope this message finds you all well! I am writing you to update you on what we are doing here in Uganda, and what we are planning on doing in the very near future. You are all people who I love and trust very much which is why I want to share this with you. It has been so amazing to be a part of the work that God is doing here, He has been opening up so many doors and has been pretty clearly paving our way. As some of you may know, we made a trip into the Congo about a month ago. We ran into some trouble with harassment by the government, in our endeavor we stumbled upon almost 150 children living on the streets of a small town called Dungu. As we talked with these children, we discovered that they were all Ugandan escapees from the LRA. Little by little they have been escaping and fleeing to this town. Because of them being Ugandan though, they did not receive any help or care for the Congolese government, which is why they have been living on the streets ever since. We told the kids that we would be coming back as soon as we could to get them out and back into Uganda. When we got back we had to start figuring out how we would take care of these 150 kids, most of which severely traumatized by their experience in the LRA. We gave it much thought and prayer and still didn't know exactly what we were going to do, until one day we were given the name of a man who was a friend of a friend of Matt's dad. His name was Patrick and he was working up in Gulu trying to start some sort of trauma counseling center. So this last weekend we went up to Gulu and met with Patrick. He told us of his plans to build this trauma counseling and rehabilitation center on 22 acres of land he had acquired. HE plans to build housing, a school for the children, a church, and he plans to plant crops to give the men jobs as a part of the process. He even has the help of the woman who ran World Vision's rehabilitation centers in the North while the war was still happening there. We continued to talk for a while and Patrick ended by telling us that he was going to have all of these things for the center but no kids to put in it. We told him that was funny because we just happened to have 150 kids with no where to take them! His eyes lit up with joy and we all knew that this was not some chanced meeting.

So the reason I am writing you with this is because we are planning to go in and get the kids out within the next month. I am writing to ask that you would be a part of this with us in prayer. This is something that can only be accomplished by the grace of God and by His leading. If everything goes right, it really should be a very easy operation, but there is much corruption and many evils in the Congo and any little thing can make the whole thing go wrong. So please pray with us that God will guide our steps, that He will protect our way as we travel with the children, and that He will allow us to get the kids across the border safely with no trouble from the government. Also, if you want to help physically support this rescue, we are trying to raise about $1,000 in the next week to pay for transportation and border fees for the kids. Whatever we have left over will be put towards their recovery at the center.

I would not be writing you if this was not something we truly felt God moving in. Everything we have done here so far has been pointing to this, and we know it is time to move forward with it. More than anything I ask for your prayer in this, there is nothing more beautiful than the body coming together as one in prayer. I love and miss you all so much and I will try to keep you as updated as possible!

In Love,

Brennon
